Gear manufacturers are turning to recycled materials and reducing the need for new resources. Reused products are being incorporated in the new products that will be recyclable at the end of their usage period.

Let’s take a look at 9 environmentally responsible outdoor companies and support them when we can:

Patagonia

Patagonia is all about preserving our planet for the future generations and this message has been loud since the beginning. The products for wild places should ensure that those wild places continue to exist. By 2025 the company pledges to be completely carbon neutral. Over $100 million has been donated for various environmental causes throughout the years.

The newest spring rainwear line is made out of 100% recycled nylon. New wetsuits contain no neoprene, but use 85% Yulex rubber from sustainable sources. Finally, Patagonia board shorts this season are made of 65% Recycled nylon, so wear them and feel good.

Cotopaxi

The company is serious about using recycled materials and has an entire collection made from that. Repurposed Collection includes backpacks, duffel bags, a dopp kit, a fanny pack, and windbreakers – all one-of-a-kind. Cotopaxi is working closely with its suppliers and use what is available when producing unique color combinations that are unique and might not be produced ever again. Mountainsmith

This name unites REI, Green Guru, and Mountainsmith in their mission to accomplish more together. This united team has worked together to produce a waist pack made strictly in the USA. Mountainsmith took care of designing, REI provided used bicycle tubes and climbing ropes for materials, and Green Guru finished the product. Now we all can enjoy this 83% recycled and stunning waist pack during all our outdoor adventures.

Toad & Co.

This spring’s line is the first for the company consisting of products made of 100% sustainable materials. All their products have to be “Eco” and contain at least 83% sustainably harvested fabrics. To prove how serious the company is about all that they have a third party certify their materials for responsibility.

Two good examples for the spring line:

• Barrel House Hoodie – 100% recycled, with 40% polyester from plastic bottles and 60% cotton
• Epique Full Zip Hoodie – 55% hemp and 45% polyester from recycled bottles

Nemo

This camping giant is most famous for its tents, but is expanding into other camping areas as of lately. New collection of sleeping bags is also environmentally friendly. The FeatherCore-constructed line of bags is not only sturdy and high quality, but uses Primaloft Silver synthetic insulation for heat retention. This insulation is made of 70% recycled materials. All sleeping bags come with lifetime warranty.

Costa Del Mar

Costa, as it’s mostly known, has been in polarized sunglass making business for a while. It teamed up with Bureo in recent years to create their famous frames with discarded fishing nets. Bureo’s mission is to protect our oceans and marine life from those nets, and now they can put them to good use.

Eagle Creek

The company is best known for travel luggage and accessories that are made with adventure in mind. The new Gear Warrior collection is earth-friendly and includes wheeled luggage and travel packs all made from 100% recycled PET ripstop and coating. Reusing materials did not put a damper on design with luggage as stylish as ever.

Backcountry

The company sells outdoor gear and equipment and also makes some of its own brand products. Backcounty brand features a new Rockport Seawool Flannel Shirt that comes in two colors – mustard and grey. The shirt is made of recycled oyster shells and stretch polyester. That’s right, oyster shells. The beautiful thing about this combination is that it feels just like wool – warm, airy, and wrinkle-free. It also prevents sweating and dries very fast.
