My Honest Butcherbox Review
In the world of subscription box services, it is totally normal to receive everything from dog toys and beauty products to wine and even raw meat every month right to your door. While raw meat is available in every grocery store, not all raw meat is equal. This is where Butcher Box comes into play. The company is passionate about quality meat that is 100% grass-fed and contains no hormones or antibiotics. All cows, pigs, and chickens are humanely raised and free to roam. The meat that comes from these animals is the only kind fit for our tables, according to Butcher Box.
How does it work, you may wonder? It’s very simple – you choose the meats and the plan, Butcher Box delivers it to your door, and then you feed your family the healthiest meat possible.
There are a few plans to choose from:
- Custom Box – 9-14 lbs of meat, your choice, $149 per month
- The Mixed Box – 8.5-11 lbs of mixed meat, $129 per month
- The Beef & Pork Box – 8-11 lbs of beef and pork, $129 per month
- The Beef & Chicken – 8.5-11 lbs of beef and chicken - $129 per month
- The All Beef Box – 8-10 lbs of beef cuts - $129 per month
What I loved about this company the most and why I wanted to try them was that all their beef is grass-fed and grass-finished, all chickens are free range and organic, and all the pigs are heritage breeds and have access to outside. I love meat too much to become a vegetarian, but I am also an animal lover, so knowing that all animals here are humanely treated helps me a great deal.
After I learned all this information about Butcher Box, I wanted to order from them right away. I also loved the fact that they offered a nice new customer coupon of 2 pounds of salmon, 4 lb pork butt, and 1 pack of bacon for free. I chose free ground beef and bacon offer. This is an amazing welcome bonus right here!
While ordering my first box from Butcher Box I also used another coupon that gave me $15 off and got free shipping. In total I paid $134, which is not bad for such quality meat.
After ordering my Butcher Box came in a couple of days and everything inside was nicely insulated and cold. I ordered chicken thighs, salmon, and whole chicken and also got free ground beef and two packages of bacon. This made for many nice dinners that my family enjoyed.
All the meat was packaged in vacuum packages and had all nutritional information and safe handling instructions on each. Chicken was free range and organic. Each package contained three thighs. Salmon filets were also each packed separately, wild net caught in Bristol Bay, Alaska, fresh frozen, and even had catch area 67 stated on the packages. Ground beef was 85% lean, 15%, grass-fed, organic, and raised without antibiotics or growth hormones. The bacon that I received was Applewood smoked, uncured, organic, and came from heritage breed pigs.
I was very happy with my choices. While our family mostly eats chicken and fish, beef that is this pure will be a big hit!
I really enjoyed the opportunity to pick my own types of meat and will probably stick with Custom Box in the future. To get ready for that I looked at what kinds of meats are available on Butcher Box website and was blown away by the amount of choices!

I wish Butcher Box would have more seafood choices, but that is not their focus and I understand it. There is always hope that they will include more of it in the future.
While I am pretty good in the kitchen, I always love finding new recipes, and Butcher Box is a treasure trove for them, so in addition to just getting the main ingredient delivered, they will lend you a helping hand at the stove too.
The price of the box might seem significant, but when you think how much would you pay from similar quality grass-fed organic meat at your local Whole Foods or Sprouts, you will understand that you are actually getting everything on sale from Butcher Box. And I am not even talking about the convenience factor!
After my first successful try like this I am going to order from Butcher Box again, and soon!
