Audible produces and sells all sorts of audible entertainment, including over 200,000 audio books, informational programs, radio and TV excerpts, and audio subscriptions for popular magazines and newspapers.

This service is a part of Amazon platform and is subscription based. When you first sign up, you are given 30 days free with 2 free audio books to keep if you enter Audible through Amazon. Normal price is $14.95 per month for those 2 credits after the free trial expires. You can cancel membership any time or increase your number of credits by paying more if you want more books that just 2 per month.

It is possible to buy audio books from Audible without becoming a member. Some benefits won’t be available in that case, such as exchanging or returning books that you order by mistake or if you don’t like them.

The beauty of Audible is that once you start listening to a book, you can continue on any device later because it will keep its place in your library across all devices. If you are already a member of Amazon, your payment option is already stored, so creating an account with Audible will take just a few minutes.

What devices does Audible work with?

How does Audible credit system work?

You get two credits per month that are good for any two books and it’s up to you how to use those credits. You can buy two $5 books or you can buy two $50 books. We recommend spending credits on expensive books and later buying cheaper ones for money if you so desire. All Audible members get 30% off all books.

Audible credits expire, so you shouldn’t get a plan with which you will accumulate more credits that you can use. Start with little and see how you do. You can always add extra books by paying cash for them if need be.

Can you place your membership on hold?

Yes, but there are some limitations. The membership can be placed on hold for 3 months every 12 months. By placing it on hold you won’t lose any accumulated credits, unlike with cancelling the membership. If you cancel your membership, all the books you have in your library will remain yours. The subscription can be restarted any time without any limitations.

What kinds of membership plans are available?

• Gold Monthly – This is your basic plan for $14.95 where you get one credit per month and all membership benefits.
• Gold Annual – for $149.50 per year you can get 12 credits, which gives you two months free. You can use all your credits at once or spread it out.
• Platinum Monthly – you will get 2 credits for $22.95 per month.
• Platinum Annual – similar to Gold Annual, you will get 12 credits for $159.50, which also includes 2 months free.
• Audible Silver Membership – it gives you 1 credit for $14.98 every alternative month.

How can you get more audiobooks?

There are few options for the ultimate book lovers who can never get enough:

• You can buy more credits as long as you have been Gold/Platinum member for at least 30 days and have 0-1 credit left in your account. This works on the website and mobile devices, not on the app.
• Buy audio books at 30% off for members. This option is unlimited and very useful from time to time.

What are Audible membership benefits?

First of all, members get exclusive Audible Originals per month. They are available only on Audible and nowhere else. You can download them on the first Friday of every month. They are not exchangeable or returnable.

How does Audible return and exchange work?

It’s very easy to return and exchange anything on Audible, as long as you are a member. It’s free and fast, but there are some limitations:

• Only members can return and exchange books, Amazon Prime members can’t exchange anything
• It has to be done within 365 days after purchase with no questions asked
• The refund will be the same method as you purchased – credits back for credits and cash back for cash
• Any book can be returned, even if you already listened to it. There is no limit for the number of returns, but if you will abuse it, Audible will notice and might suspend your account, so be nice and don’t overdo it

Are there any cons for Audible?

Most people have only two complaints. First, Audible doesn’t send any reminders or alerts before charging the account every month after the free trial is over.

Second, Audible app doesn’t support return option yet and that can be annoying because you have to go to their website to do it. Hopefully this will change in the future.
