And your Whole Foods grass fed beef and organic chicken will cost you way more.

• Packaging

If you strive to produce as little waste as possible, this huge box will break your heart. You can recycle though, so make sure to at least do that.

There are a few ways to order ButcherBox on a bit of a budget. First, don’t order the priciest custom box. All curated boxes are very nice and do a great job selecting a good variety of meat for you. Second, order only those meats that you can’t get locally, especially of the quality that you want. For example, if your favorite grocery store sells nice cuts of all natural grass-fed pasture beef steaks, don’t get it from ButcherBox. What most stores don’t sell is free-range chicken and heritage breed pork, so fill up your box with those meats.

ButcherBox is awesome for people who love convenience and really care about what kind of meat they put in their bodies.
