If thinking about steak gets you watery mouthed, you should give ButcherBox a try. Their meat is of prime quality, but priced very competitively. Ordering this box will be almost like going to a local meat farm, which not many of us have. At ButcherBox you can choose your meat cuts and types yourself or let experts select them for you.

When we buy meat at our grocery stores, we don’t know much about it. ButcherBox strives to be very transparent and buys their meat following these rules:

  • Beef – 100% grass fed and grown on open grass pastures, no hormones or antibiotics
  • Chicken – organic, cage-free, pasture raised, cruelty-free
  • Pork – all meat comes from heritage breeds and no medication or growth hormones

Meat at our grocery stores

Every meat lover knows the difference between a regular cut and one that is raised on pasture and has no hormones. It is juicier, more flavorful, has more vitamins, and less fat. We also know that animals didn’t have to suffer while alive. ButcherBox supports local farms that practice responsible farming and provide the freshest meat for us – it’s a win, win situation.

When you are ready to become a member and the waitlist finally reaches your turn, this is what you will have to do:

  • Choose a plan – all beef, beef + chicken, beef + pork, mix of all three, or custom box. All curated boxes have up to 11 pounds of meat and cost $126. Custom box contains 9-14 pounds and costs $149.
  • Pick a box size – you can go for regular size for $126 or upgrade to a big box for $238 or $270 for big custom box.
  • Pick add-ons – you can add fish, such as wild Alaskan salmon, when available, uncured bacon or sausage.
  • Delivery – you can pick monthly boxes or boxes that arrive every other month. Your meat will be delivered in insulated boxes over dry ice, so everything will arrive still frozen.
  • Storage – you can keep meats that will be used soon enough in the refrigerator and freeze the rest for later usage.

A good way to describe the difference between ButcherBox and supermarket meat is by comparing a real fresh sushi from Japan and a $7.99 prepackaged grocery store variety. After tasting the first one, you might never want to go back to the latter one.

A few people have complained about experiencing problems with cancelation or account editing, but most have no issues and do modifications from their account pages all the time. If you see that your freezer is overflowing or you want to save a little, you can put your subscription on hold for a few months at no charge.

What are ButcherBox pros?

  • Convenience

There is a reason why it is currently not accepting new customers – during corona quarantine people understood the pleasure of getting their meat delivered to their door even more. Busy families can definitely benefit from this subscription service and spend quality time together anywhere other than grocery stores.

  • Taste

The taste is superior – meat cuts are juicy, tender, and delicious. You can tell the difference right away!

  • Quality

All the ButcheBox meat has no hormones, is raised with love and on pastures, grass-fed, and organic. This is hard to find in random grocery stores.

What are ButcherBox cons?

  • Price

This is the biggest negative about ButcherBox. $130 per month on meat that won’t even be enough for an entire month for family of 4 steak lovers is a lot. However, the price for quality that you are getting is really not that high. Buying grass-fed organic meat from your local butcher would cost you more, and not everybody has such option where they live. And your Whole Foods grass fed beef and organic chicken will cost you way more.

  • Packaging

If you strive to produce as little waste as possible, this huge box will break your heart. You can recycle though, so make sure to at least do that.

There are a few ways to order ButcherBox on a bit of a budget. First, don’t order the priciest custom box. All curated boxes are very nice and do a great job selecting a good variety of meat for you. Second, order only those meats that you can’t get locally, especially of the quality that you want. For example, if your favorite grocery store sells nice cuts of all natural grass-fed pasture beef steaks, don’t get it from ButcherBox. What most stores don’t sell is free-range chicken and heritage breed pork, so fill up your box with those meats.

Butcher Box Coupon 20off

ButcherBox is awesome for people who love convenience and really care about what kind of meat they put in their bodies. Those of you, who have great organic meat options locally, will probably not benefit from ButcherBox. Tight budgets also can become an obstacle. What’s really important is cooking fresh healthy food for your family and doing your best, sometimes expensive meats will come later.

All in all, ButcherBox offers superior quality, unprecedented convenience, and fair price, so what’s not to love?
